Learn About Craig Lutz

So, why politics? If asked, Craig will tell you that he had a new desire to serve the public after working in New Orleans in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. While in South Louisiana, Craig saw a need for strong leadership in the area of public service. After returning, Craig started to look at what was going on in his growing community of Flowery Branch. While researching articles he came across an editorial in the Times (Gainesville) that was titled “Flowery Branch lets petty squabbles get in the way of governing”. It seemed like the only difference between New Orleans and Flowery Branch was the lack of a natural disaster; both communities had leadership issues.

Craig continued to watch local politics as the City Council raised taxes, positioned themselves to retain power, and largely ignored the concerns of the fastest growing part of the community. All of these things appeared to be the roadmap for disaster in South Hall County.

Accomplishments

Low Taxes- I voted to reduce the tax base in Flowery Branch.  I believe that people choose the best way to spend money, not the government.  By allowing people to choose where their money is spent, we can kick start our economy.
Strong on Ethics- I voted to strengthen the code of ethics in Flowery Branch requiring full disclosure of business relationships.
Sewer and Water Rates- I voted against raising the sewer and water rates based on the unfair and possibly illegal structure that existed at that time.

Primary Tasks

I will also work to improve transportation in South Hall County by looking at innovative ways to improve the Spout Springs Road corridor.
